Imam Khomeini's thought and ideals must be reflected in society: Fatima Tabatabai

The daughter in law of the late founder of the Islamic Republic said that Imam’s ideals must not remain confined to books.

She made remarks at the second preliminary session of the international conference titled “The Development of the Role and Status of Women in Light of Imam Khomeini’s Thoughts.

The academic gathering was held in the presence of Dr. Fatemeh Tabatabaei, Hojjat ali Islam Ali Komsari, the head of the institute for compilation and publication of Imam Khomeini’s works.

Also in attendance was and Hojjatul Islam Mohammad Moqaddam, chancellor of at the Imam Khomeini and Islamic Revolution Research center.

“Imam Khomeini's thought must be reflected in the fabric of society. Before the revolution, jurists differed in their opinions about women driving, but the Imam opened the way for women to drive and play active role.”

"In the Imam's thought, other social positions were indicated for women, and these positions must be critically discussed. The Imam's status was so high that he did not consider allocating a single day for them sufficient," She added.

The head of the Scientific Society for Islamic Gnosticism confirmed that, unfortunately, after many years, there are still debates about whether some of the Imam's thoughts on women are jurisprudential or political. In any case, there is a profound gap between the Imam's thoughts on women and their manifestations within society. It may take years for these thoughts to penetrate the social and political spheres.

For his part, Hojjat al-Islam Ali Komsari indicated that these preliminary sessions are close to achieving their goals. He said.

"Our main strategy at the Institute for Compilation and Publication of Imam Khomeini's Works (may God sanctify his secret) is to explain the intellectual and theoretical dimensions of the Imam's thought on women." He added, "We hope that the interpretation of the Imam's thoughts at the Imam Khomeini and Islamic Revolution Research School will expand even further."
